SUN is the most massive a celestial body of our Solar System that is responsible for maintaining life on our planet: Earth. Sun is at the heart of our Solar System and all the bodies in Solar System including Planets, Asteroids, Comets and revolve around it in their orbits. The most massive body of our Solar System - SUN - is at a distance of 149.6 million kilometers (1 AU : Astronomical Unit) from our earth. The diameter of Sun is about 109 times of that of earth and the mass is about 330000 times that of earth. The mass of SUN is about 99.86% of the total mass of our Solar system. 75% of Sun's mass is made up of Hydrogen while rest is made of Helium (nearly 25%), oxygen, neon, iron and carbon.

SUN is actually a star which looks like a fire ball from earth instead of twinkling like other stars. This is because SUN is far near to our earth as compared to other stars. With the age of approximately 4.6 Billion years ago, present state of Sun comes under the category of Yellow Dwarf stars. SUN is nearly a perfect sphere of hot plasma having a temperature of 15.7 Million Kelvins (K) in its core and 5800 K temperature at its surface.

SUN produces immense heat and energy through a thermal procession known as Fusion in which hydrogen gets converted into helium emitting enormous heat and energy. According to recent analysis, 99% of the power of SUN is generated within 24% radius. By 30 of its radius, the fusion process nearly stop and rest of the outer layers is just heated up by the generated energy which is transferred outwards to the Solar Photosphere from where it escapes into limitless space.

Originally, the color of sunlight is White. On looking at sun from space, you will see a large white ball hanging without any support in the space. It looks red, yellow, orange and in other shades because of the atmospheric layers of our earth. It takes nearly 8 minutes for sunlight to travel from SUN to Earth. The sunlight we receive is composed of 50% Infrared Light, 40% Visible Light and 10% Ultraviolet Light. SUN also has a massive Magnetic field around its surface.

In our Milkyway Galaxy, the SUN is located in the arm of our galaxy nearly 25000-28000 Light Years away from the Galactic Center. The distance between our arm and the next arm of our Galaxy is around 6500 light years. Proxima Centauri is the nearest red dwarf star companion of our sun.
